Lovely recipe. I'll certainly give it a go. Looking forward to the fireworks but I wish they were silent. Hope Tilly isn't frightened. My westie used to be terrified. Looking forward to eating our bonfire toffee too.

She's surprisingly unfazed by them - which is a blessing. I do agree though, I wish they were silent. I growing up we had a collie called 'Mouse' who was petrified... They're also a nightmare for livestock and horses. I sound like such a misery guts, I know! Thank you for your comment :) let me know if you try the recipe and feel free to share some of your toffee with us! Haha

I always wonder about the clock change. Is it really necessary nowadays, we have such excellent street lighting now. We have clocks that alter the time automatically. Would it be better to deduct or add 2 or 3 minutes per week instead. Would it be better to not adjust at all, just pick one and stick with it. I also wonder if I could not change the clock as an individual as I don't have to be anywhere particularly accurately for the most part. Might try that.

I tend to agree with whether or not its necessary. I understand the need in the past, with factories and farmers needing to maximise the natural light and work days were more regimented... But now, everything is far more flexible. Equally, I'm not sure how clock start a farm day is... Surely, animals rise with the sun. Anyway - I like your idea of not being governed by a clock! We've made a conscious decision not to have one in the boat, it sounds a bit pretentious, but when we did, we just spent so long checking the time. Plus, if we all run on our own time, you can never be late haha

I made a non-veggie sausage version of this recipe this evening using Aldi’s coffee stout. It was amazing. I’ll definitely make it again

If you’re completely plant based, check the generic/store-brand labels of Worcestershire sauce. They sometimes don’t contain anchovies in order to cut the cost. My store-brand is accidentally vegan by not containing anchovies and tastes exactly like Lea & Perrins.
