Have you always lived on a barge? It is a lifestyle that I seem drawn to. This is wonderful content, thank you

Hey there! Somehow it's now been just over five years on the water! We do cheat a little though — we’ve got a permanent mooring these days, so we don’t have to cruise as much as we used to (which definitely makes life easier with a little one).

It’s a beautiful way of life, as long as you’re happy to live with the compromises — small spaces and the constant list of jobs that come with being off-grid. But I love how it brings you closer to nature. You feel like you're part of it, rather than just passing through. And there’s a kind of ‘realness’ to it all... I know that sounds like a daft word, but it makes sense in my brain haha. Lighting a fire because that’s your only heating over winter, being responsible for how much power you use or you’ll knacker your batteries, remembering to top up the water tank… it keeps you grounded. It’s a lovely, gentle way to live — and the community is something really special too.

Thank you so much for replying! Being close to nature and living seasonally is my main reason but also the simplicity of it( although I am sure there are many non - simple moments!) Modern day life I find too fast and busy.

I do have an allotment, I took it on 2 years ago and last year I took on the very overgrown hen pen which is in an orchard so I get apples and eggs. When I step onto this little bit of land I feel soothed and softened.

I struggle living in a busy town… thank you for this inspiration, I will check out your YouTube. 🌱

I’m 33 and I loved watching the good life growing up! I often think of and how that’s what I’d like really :)

Yes! I also loved The Good Life. I had it on a home-taped VHS and used to watch in the mornings before school, like a right little weirdo. I rewatched the whole lot about a year ago and was struck by how much it had influenced my life choices...
