The sky is blue and the trees are almost still. Just looking up today, it’s as if the last weather episode never happened. That is if you turn a blind eye to the flooding and debris that’s still lurking. The poem we’re sharing this week is in response to Storm Bert which hit the UK over the last few days.
Every week we take it in turns to share a poem with each other and with you, as reading poetry, especially aloud, is meant to be brilliant for our wellbeing. Now this week is supposed to be over to Jack… but as he’s feeling sorry for himself tucked up in bed fighting the lurgy we’ve all battled this week, it’s over to me, Gabby. I hope you enjoy it!
I saw you toss the kites on high And blow the birds about the sky; And all around I heard you pass, Like ladies' skirts across the grass-- O wind, a-blowing all day long, O wind, that sings so loud a song! I saw the different things you did, But always you yourself you hid. I felt you push, I heard you call, I could not see yourself at all-- O wind, a-blowing all day long, O wind, that sings so loud a song! O you that are so strong and cold, O blower, are you young or old? Are you a beast of field and tree, Or just a stronger child than me? O wind, a-blowing all day long, O wind, that sings so loud a song!
The Wind - Robert Louis Stevenson
